Biggest difference between Free version and Standard or Premium for Jira Cloud

We are currently on Jira Cloud Free version, but are probably going to change to Standard or Premium in the near future.

What was for you the biggest difference between the Free version and Standard or Premium for you?

I know on the pricing overview, it gives you a high level overview of the differences between each version, but I'm sure there are little (but significant) things not mentioned in this list, like being able to create more levels of work types in the Premium version, etc.

Hi, @Valerie Vliegen

For me - most important features, available at Premium (comparing to Free), are:

  1. Issue hierarchy
  2. Flexible permissions
  3. Execution limits of Automation rules
  4. Archive issues/projects functionaluty

Hi @Valerie Vliegen,

For us, it was

  • Storage
  • Audit Logs
  • Permission Management

Hope this helps!

Everyone is correct :-).   But it is situational.  You need to Go Premium for the following reasoins (IMHO)....

  • ISSUE HIERARCHY:  This feature lets you add layers/bundles to your work and is a must have for any organization that wants flexibility in creating projects.
  • ADVANCED PLANS (aka Roadmaps).  Every client I have worked with wants that Gantt Chart.  With ADVANCE PLANS, you get it built in:  https://community.atlassian.com/learning/lesson/what-are-plans-in-jira
  • AUTOMATION: By itself, this isn't a reason IMHO. But Automation is important to some and below the license level of "Premuim", you are one "bad rule" away from running out of your alloted executions.

Happpy upgrades :-)

Hi Valerie,

The single biggest difference is the permissions. With the Free subscription, everyone is basically an admin and can see everything and you can't control that. With the Standard subscription you can implement different permission schemes and grant different access to different projects.
