I am planning a migration from Jira Server to Jira Cloud and want to make sure all workflows custom fields and permissions transfer correctly
Are there common issues with complex workflows during migration
How can I check that custom fields and automation rules work correctly in Cloud
Are there recommended tools or steps to make the migration smoother
Any guidance or step by step tips from someone who has done this would be very helpful
Dear @carl
If your workflows only contain standard elements (those offered by Jira without added plugins), you can migrate quite quickly using JCMA.
If your workflows contain custom elements such as Groovy scripts, custom fields, validators, conditions, or postfunctions from marketplace plugins, the migration will be more costly since you will have to convert those elements in the cloud instance.
I recommend you conduct a workflow assessment to identify these elements.
An add-on that can help you with this is Smart Jira Documentation, which allows you to obtain highly detailed documentation of your workflows in a user-friendly way:
With this addon you can get all the workflow transitions with fields, conditions, validations and postfunctions
Hope this helps
Hi @carl
Best option will be to review below pages:
- https://support.atlassian.com/migration/resources/
Also I will advise you to create migration ticket on Atlassian Support. They are very helpful, guide and suggest how to solve some technical issues. They can be also available during your production migration.
Regarding tool I used Atlassian migration assistant and in some add-ons cases I used vendor help to move everything quickly and without issues.

Seba
