Hi everyone,
I’m currently managing a set of project management workflows for Funnelsflex, and we’re planning to migrate from Jira Server to Jira Cloud. I want to make sure the migration is smooth and doesn’t disrupt ongoing projects or lose any important data.
Specifically, I’m looking for guidance on:
Preserving existing boards, filters, and custom workflows
Handling apps and integrations that work differently in Cloud
Minimizing downtime for team members during migration
Has anyone successfully migrated complex workflows from Server to Cloud? Any tips, common pitfalls to avoid, or resources you’d recommend would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hi @FunnelsFlex and welcome to the Community!
The starting point for all server to cloud migrations would be the migration guide.
You will find there that it is a process that takes the necessary assessment, preparation, testing and planning. Most out of the box Jira configuration and data can be migrated automatically with the Jira Migration Assistant (JCMA).
However, some customisations and marketplace apps may not offer an automated migration path and will need further investigation, reaching out to the app vendor or searching for alternatives.
In many cases, if you do have a lot of customisations and marketplace app challenges, it is a good idea to reach out to a Solution Partner to help you with the migration. Working for one myself and having assisted quite a few migrations, I can testify that this helps you avoid and prevent mistakes you might easily run into if you're doing a migration only once.
To find a solution partner in your geography, you can check the Atlassian Partner Directory.
Hope this helps!
