Hi! I have a team-managed project with a Kanban board and a Backlog view enabled.
I would like to have a "Backlog" status for issues and have them in the Backlog view, without needing to add a column for that status in the Kanban Board. However, if I don't add a column with the "Backlog" status in it, the issues in that status are not shown on the Backlog page.
I know this was possible in company-managed projects (I had one like that) but I can't make it work in my current team-managed project.
An example without the Backlog column in the board ("Backlog" status issues not showing in the Backlog view):
And now with the Backlog column (with "Backlog" status assigned) added to the Board (issues in "Backlog" status automatically show up in the Backlog view):
Hello @mkmenta
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
The short answer is you can't set up the Team Managed kanban board the same was as the Company Managed kanban board, with regard to this specific element of functionality.
In this regard Company Managed and Team Managed kanban boards are different.
In a Company Managed kanban board, you map a Status value to the Backlog. Any issue in that Status is considered "in the backlog".
In Team Managed kanban boards this is not the case. An issue can be in any Status and be in either the Backlog or on the Board. The Status of the issue does not make a difference. You manually drag issues between the Backlog and Board list sections on the Backlog screen in order to designate if a given issue is "in the backlog" or "on the board".
In both types of boards a status must be mapped to a "column" in order for issues in that status to be visible on either the Backlog screen or the Board screen. With Company Managed kanban board they give you a special column just for the Backlog screen. In Team Managed kanban boards they do not. So, you have to map the "backlog" status to a column on the Board screen.
