[BUG] Board and List are "stuck" on "Parent = Empty" filter, hiding all child issues in a Team-Manag

Hello, Atlassian Community,

I am experiencing a synchronization bug in my Team-Managed project ("PLATAFORMA SRP").

The Problem: My "Board" and "List" views are only displaying orphan issues (those without an Epic/Parent). All child issues (Bugs, Stories, etc.) that are correctly linked to an Epic are completely invisible in these views.

The Evidence:

  1. The "Roadmap" tab works perfectly. It correctly shows my Epic (e.g., SRP-92) and all of its child issues (e.g., SRP-93, 94, 96, 97).

  2. The "Board" and "List" tabs only show orphan issues (e.g., SRP-88, 90, 95) and the Epic itself. The child issues (93, 94, 96, 97) are missing.

  3. The Proof of the Bug: When I click the "Parent" filter on my Board, the only available option is "No parent". The filter cannot "see" my existing Epics (like SRP-92), proving the Board is desynchronized.

What I have already tried (with no success):

  • Clearing all browser cache and logging out/in.

  • Testing in an Incognito (Private) window.

  • Disabling and re-enabling the "Roadmap" feature in Project Settings.

  • Cloning a bug (the new clone, SRP-98, inherited the same invisibility bug).

This is blocking our team's workflow. It seems to be a server-side index or filter synchronization bug. Can anyone help?

Hi @Valerie Knapp , thanks for helping.

Here is the evidence of the bug. The core problem is that my Board is not displaying child issues (like SRP-97) that are linked to an Epic. However, my Roadmap and List views can see them perfectly.

1. The Roadmap (Working): As you can see here, my Roadmap view correctly shows the Epic (SRP-92) and all its child issues (like SRP-97, 96, 94, 93). Everything looks correct here.

2. The List View (Also Working): My List view also works correctly. As of this morning, it finds and displays all the child issues (SRP-97, SRP-98) and the parent Epic (SRP-92).

3. The Board (BROKEN) and The Proof of the Bug: This image shows the issue. My Board view hides all the child issues (SRP-97, 98, etc. are missing).

The reason is visible on the right: When I click the "Parent" filter on the Board, the only option available is "No parent". The Board is unable to "see" my existing Epics (like SRP-92), which is why it is filtering out all the child issues.

I have already tried clearing my cache, logging out, and disabling/re-enabling both the "Roadmap" and "Board" features in Project Settings, but the "Parent" filter on the Board remains broken.

Thank you for investigating.

Hi @Viccenzo Gottardo Boff , thanks for the screens.

Could it be that the option to show sub-tasks isn't switched on?

Screenshot 2025-10-29 175105.png

In my board, you can see, on the left, a few cards showing sub-tasks with this configuration.

What does your menu on the right look like?

Best wishes

Hi @Valerie Knapp,

Thank you for the suggestion. I believe there might be a misunderstanding of the problem.

My issue is not with "Sub-tasks". My issue is with standard child issues (like "Bugs" and "Stories") that are children of an Epic.

The entire card (like my Bug ticket SRP-97) is missing from the Board. This is not a card layout setting.

The core of the bug remains the evidence I posted in my first screenshot. The "Parent" filter on my Board is broken and desynchronized from the project.

  • My Roadmap and List views correctly show all my Epics and their children.

  • My Board view only shows "No parent" as a filter option, so it incorrectly hides all issues that have an Epic.

Could you please re-examine my first screenshot, which shows this broken "Parent" filter? That is the real source of the problem.

Thank you!

Hi @Viccenzo Gottardo Boff , thanks for your comment.

I think you need to open a ticket for this as, I know you are anonymising for privacy, but I am having a hard time trying to read and process the data.

You are saying you don't see a specific bug on the board but you see other bugs and other standard work item types?

Let me tag Atlassian into this and see if they can open you a support case, as I am struggling to be able to help with this.

Best wishes

Hi @Valerie Knapp,

Thank you so much! This is excellent news. I really appreciate you tagging the Atlassian team to open a support case for me. That is exactly what I was hoping for.

To answer your clarifying question (I understand my pixelated screenshots make it difficult):

You are correct, but there is a specific pattern. The issue is:

  1. Old tickets (like SRP-90, SRP-91) that I created before I configured Epics ARE visible on the Board.

  2. Any new ticket I create now (like Bug SRP-97 or Improvement SRP-95) disappears from the Board.

  3. This happens to all new tickets, whether I link them to an Epic or leave them as orphans (sem "Pai").

The root cause seems to be what I showed in my first screenshot: The "Parent" filter on my Board is broken and only shows "No parent". My Board seems "stuck" in an old configuration and cannot process any new tickets correctly.

Thank you again for escalating this. I will wait to hear from the Atlassian support team.

Best wishes, Viccenzo

Hi @Viccenzo Gottardo Boff , thanks for your post.

Please can you share some screens and indicate what is happening? Specifically, it would be helpful to see the Board and List views what you are seeing versus what you expect to see.

Thanks
