Automation rule to move parent story into In Progress when first subtask gets moved to In Progress

Miles Monty July 9, 2024

We use Stories for swimlanes in our kanban boards, so show the child subtasks in the swimlane details.

As such the Story status can sometimes get neglected with most focus being on the subtasks.

I'd like to make a rule that runs when the first subtask is moved into In Progress, and checks if the parent story is also In Progress and moves it to then if not.

Any ideas?

Cheers in advance!

Have a look at this page provides an example for parent-child / child-parent transitions. (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Automation-Parent-child-issues-Transition/qaq-p/2676531)

You might also look at the templates in the Global Rules administration as there are some there that suit your use case.
