Automation - Unable to add Parent to created issue

George Vt

I am trying to create a simple automation that simply creates a new Task on a set schedule (When: Scheduled > Then: Create a new Task). I want the Task to automatically have its Parent field filled out with a particular Epic. However, when I go to select the Parent value, the only two options are "Current work item" and "Trigger work item". Previously, when Automations allowed you to add an Epic field to the created ticket, it worked exactly as I expected. This new change seems to have removed this functionality for no apparent reason.

Is there a way for me to set the Parent Epic of a ticket created in Automations?

Hello @George Vt ,

Good day, welcome to Atlassian Community.

You can directly mention (set) the EPIC number (work item Number), for example is your Epic Number is TEST-1, then just mention that in parent field and it will take that.

Let me know if it works.

Thank you, that did work.

If I may say so, this new implementation is a straight downgrade over the previous version. The reason it was so unclear to me as to what to do here is that unlike in the past, there is no recommendations dropdown, nor does the field value resolve to an Epic link. In other words, there is no feedback that what is being set is even an extant issue.

I take it there's a really good reason as to why Atlassian thought this was necessary?...

I'd like to second this opinion. Straight downgrade presently from the automation menu.
