Automation: Issue Condition for multiple values

KAIA STRICKLAND December 6, 2024

Greetings Community!

I am attempting to create an automation that will automatically add a specific description based on values added to the 'Summary' of an issue when created or edited. I have created 8 automations for the 4 for the newly created issues and 4 for the issues where the Summary was edited to the conditions below:

  1. Add the description when a new issue is created and the Summary has the value "PR Deploy"
  2. Add the description when a new issue is created and the Summary has the value "Prod Deploy"
  3. Add the description when a new issue is created and the Summary has the value "PR Validation"
  4. Add the description when a new issue is created and the Summary has the value "Prod Validation"

Is there a way to:

  1. combine the automations where the automation will run if the new issue contains "PR Deploy" "Prod Deploy" "PR Validation" OR "Prod Validation"
  2. Combine the automation to add the description if "PR Deploy" "Prod Deploy" "PR Validation" OR "Prod Validation" are added (or detected) to a new or existing story

Hello @KAIA STRICKLAND

Yes!

Use the IF/ELSE Condition:

In the first IF block add the first condition you want to apply, and click the Add Component button after it to add the Edit Issue action to update the Description field (I just inserted a Log action).

Then click the Add Else button to get another block for entering your next Summary condition.

Repeat that process until all 4 of your Summary conditions are added.

Additionally you can use the Field Value Changed trigger, selecting the Create Issue and Edit Issue actions.

That gives you one rule that runs both when issues are created and when the Summary field is updated.
