Auto-scheduler assumes multiple people can work on the same task?

Nick June 29, 2023

I'm trialling Jira Premium for the Advanced Roadmaps functions.

In a simple scenario with:

  • 1 Team with 1 person, 40h/w capacity
  • 1 task with Estimate of 10 days (=80h @ 8h per day)

The auto-scheduler schedules the task over 10 days, as I would expect.

If I add another team member, so now I have:

  • 1 Team with 2 people, 80h/w capacity

The auto-scheduler schedules the task over 5 days - apparently based on the assumption that everyone on the team can work on the same task at the same time.

In our environment, there are basically no tasks that can be worked on by multiple people. Every task has a single assignee and everyone works on separate issues.

Is there any way to have Auto-scheduler assume that only 1 person can work on a task at a time?

If not, it seems we can't use this product unless we create one "Team" for each person, which sounds like a way to get into trouble with every other Team based function (if not now then in the future as Teams are merged into the main product and new functions start using it.
