Attachments from emails not adding to ticket

Abdul Wahid Dalvi August 28, 2018

If the size of email attachment  is more than 10MB, it's failing to get added to Jira ticket  and we see a comment by "Anonymous" with a message as "An error occurred while adding attachments to this issue from the source email. Please check the attachments and re-send the email."

The setting for allowed max attachment size is under Administration -> System

Advanced -> Attachments; Attachment Size.

Per JIRA: "In the Attachment Size field, specify the maximum attachment size. The default (per file) is 10485760 bytes (10 MB). The maximum attachment size (per file) is 2147483647 bytes (2 GB)."

In our Jira instance, our attachment size is set to default 10MB. We requested our admin to increase it to 25 MB to match our e-mail maximum size. Our admin team informed us that as per jira vendor there will be Jira performance issues so they cannot increase it. Hence, It is limited to 10 mb for all the Jira users. Please advise.

Hi Abdul,

There was another question in the community about performance impact when increasing the attachment size:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Marketplace-Apps-questions/Attachment-Size-in-JIRA-to-increase-from-10-MB-to-30-MB/qaq-p/766200

Maybe you can increase the limit temporarily and have the system admin monitor performance? If you don't see an impact you propose to keep the size to 25MB.

Hope it helps,

Carlos

It is possible to increase the limit, the increase is there for a reason. If it is impacting business just go through the proper channels to request the change.
