Atlassian MCP server in Visual Studio is dead after a password change.

I recently changed my Atlassian password and my Atlassian MCP sever is not working anymore in Visual Studio 2026. It just silently fails when I try to Authenticate. Tried removing and adding it back, clearing copilot and identiity cache, restarted Visual studio 10 times, nothing I tried helps.

HI @Lev Pertsov

Welcome to the community.

As mentioned by @marc -Collabello--Phase Locked- you need a new API key.

Authentication in MCP is don on user account email and token, this token you created is in your Account settings

I resolved the issue by completely removing Atlassian MCP server via MCP Server Manager in VS 2026 and then installing it back again. This cleared whatever idiotic cache it was holding on to and prompted re-Authentication.

Most likely you need to generate a new API key and add the new key to the MCP server setup.

my server config doesn't contain an api key. It worked perfectly fine until I changed my password, now it just silently fails instead of re-authenticating me.
