Hi all,
I have a workflow where different custom text fields need to be populated by users at each status transition. But until that status arrives, the associated field is meaningless, so I ideally don't want to show those fields in the description fields section when viewing the issue.
Two options occur to me:
1. Hide these fields when empty (can use automation to populate them with template text on status transition).
2. Have a separate screen for each status.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to do either of these things. Advise very welcome - perhaps there's a better way, and/or did I miss something in screen configuration?
Thanks.
Hi Dave,
Here's the problem because I just tried to do this. You can move the Description field (and other Paragraph type fields that would normally show in the Description fields section of the screen) to the HIDE FIELDS WHEN EMPTY section. However, there is a bug in Jira that will not show those fields in the Description area even when they are populated. They will put them in the Context section on the right hand side. That might be okay for you - but for me that further crowds an already crowded area of the screen.
There is an open request for that if you want to vote for and follow it.

And you can't have a separate screen per status - only per issue type.
Hi John,
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't seen that suggestion ticket, so I'll watch out for that being implemented.
And you confirmed my suspicion that separate screen per status isn't a feature of Jira.
