Hi there,
I am trying to come up with a Sprint board for a new project I am working on. I have never had Jira admin rights before so I am not sure if I can execute the workflows I have in my mind. Let me explain my vision, and please let me know if it possible to take care of it in Jira or not.
Work flows for different issue types:
1. Story ( To do -> In-development, In-QA -> Deployment ready -> Done)
2. Sub-tasks under the story (To do -> In-progress -> Done)
3. If the sub-task = Defect (To do -> Dev In-Progress -> Fixed/QA to Re-test (Can be sent back to dev here), Closed/Done(with resolution reason) , Re-open)
The columns in the Sprint can be:
Back-log (only for stories), To-Do (Sub-tasks under the story), Dev-Inprogress, QA-Inprogress, Ready for deployment, Done)
This is atleast what I am thinking, but I am not even sure it can be done this way in JIRA or not. Please guide.
Configuring the workflows scheme you can make that each issue type has an independent flow, to configure the workflows scheme you must make the following steps, from the project options, go to workflows --> workflows scheme --> add workflows --> select workflow --> associate to the type of issue that we need.
In this way the issue types will be associated to the corresponding workflow.
You must take into account when creating the board, is that you must map each one of the status of each workflow in the corresponding columns, that is to say, the workflows have different status, but to be able to manage the board you must make these associations in the columns of the same one.
I hope it helps you
Greetings
This really helped. Unfortunately there aren't great resources out there help in understanding the concept of Workflow or screen schemes and then how do we map them to our created columns.
I had to do a lot of trial and error before it worked for me. Before reading your answer, I felt confused but after I was done with the implementation, your answer made ALOT of sense to me. Thank you so much.
