Are Shared issues saved in a repository?

When I select Share and Jira asks for an email address and I write a message to send, is that correspondence stored as part of the Issues records so I can reference it later?  How do I refer back to that Shared correspondence.  I would have thought it would be saved as a comment, or accessed through my email server, but it apparently is not in either.
