Does anybody know what this means? The email contains no links, no release notes, no changelogs, no more information other than this highly impactful changes are coming soon with almost no notice.
It means that Jira has now gotten harder to use. This change is one of the stupidest Atlassian has made and they've made some pretty stupid changes.
I have not received that notification yet, and I do not see the item listed in the release blog for Jira. Trying the UX just now for a Free license site, I do not see the described "improved" experience, although I do notice significantly more flashing / repainting as the configured fields eventually display.
Perhaps watch for next week's blog update or a community article to learn more about it: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/blog
Kind regards,
Bill

One more of the top most stupidest updates Atlassian made.
I'm weekly cleaning up issues, sorry i meant Work Items (...), created in the wrong project or issue typ, sorry Work Item Type (...).
The most important first two questions, when creating a ticket is:
1. What Project
2. What Issue Type
And exactly this two decisions are almost not to see on the create issue screen.
Only this stupid little two icons!!!!

@Martin Flury I completely agree. I've had a few rants about this "improvement". The good news is that you, or your admin, can switch it off.
General configuration --> Options --> Simple create as default

@Julia Foden you are my star!
I did not get any information mail about this change, nor could I finde any Atlassian article to place any feedback about it.
This setting "Simple create as default" was in my understanding to open the create issue screen reduced or enlarged. I was not aware this setting disables this stupid update.
Immediately turned it OFF.

You're welcome @Martin Flury !
Like you I didn't get any email and there was no Atlassian community post about it. I left a furious rant about it on the article about seasonal releases.
But then there was an announcement about the new Release Notes beta, and in that I found the Release Note about this "improvement" and that included the instructions how to switch it off.
I don't seem to be able to add a link to the Release Note - I added it in a separate comment but that seems to have disappeared - but if you go to Release Notes in the top bar then search by App: Jira and 'Create' you'll find it.

I saw in the April 27 weekly changelog that there was an entry for this but for something which seems likely to be quite impactful to many users I would have expected a Community announcement rather that sneaking it in "under the radar" in the changelog. Below is the text from the changelog entry but I have no idea what constitutes a project "with more complex needs" or how the system determines that.
We’re updating the way you create work in Jira to make it faster and simpler. When you select the Create button, you’ll see a compact create window with essential fields so you can capture ideas quickly and stay in your flow. We're introducing this experience gradually, so it may not be available in your site right away. As we learn from feedback and usage, we may continue to refine the experience.
To get started with this change:
To create a work item with the modernized experience:
- Select the Create button from any screen in Jira.
- Enter the key details for your work item in the compact create window. The compact create window shows the summary, description, any required fields, and up to three optional fields from your existing configuration. For team-managed projects, these are the highest-ranked optional fields. For company-managed projects, they’re the first optional fields shown on the create screen.
- Select Create to finish, or select the expand icon if you need to add more details in the full layout.
For projects with more complex needs, like extra required fields, tabs, or customized screens, you'll automatically see the full-form layout.

Has anyone find out more on this? I want to start preparing my teams for what looks like a significant change, but I can't find any details

@Robert Eiser here's what I received from Atlassian Support:
Hello Mathew,
Hope you’re doing great, and thanks for waiting so far!
I have heard from the team responsible for the Create work item modernization feature you received the notification about.
What is this?
We are introducing a new default mini-modal for creating Jira work items that focuses on essential fields for faster, simpler creation. When is it happening?
We plan to start the customer-facing rollout at the end of April with a small subset of customers, meaning that you may not see those changes initially.
Why did you receive the notification?
This email was sent out to provide admins a heads-up about the upcoming change. We expect the rollout to begin in late April, and more details will be shared in the release notes closer to launch. No action is required from your side. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
After a bit more poking, I got the following additional details
We can confirm that your site will not be included in the initial rollout cohort for this change.
For sites included in the rollout, we have accounted for admin control: admins will have a toggle to opt out of the simple create experience as the default for their site.
We’ll also share more detailed release notes and documentation closer to launch.
I still haven't seen any updates anywhere on this rollout.

We've got that one a couple of days ago as well @Mathew Lederman
Note that it won't be the first time that the announcement was rolled out (or it was partially describing the updates) while the feature itself would roll out a couple of weeks after.
I did try to check app updates under Atlassian Administration for a couple of orgs, but there's no mention of this anywhere 🫤👀
It will be interesting if they're planning to (re)move the "Create" button on the top... If so, it will be a significant UI change 🤔
