We have a Jira Plan that we use for submitting effort estimates. The plan has a list of issues and includes two fields per team that allow setting estimates. One field is a number field to put in the estimate, the other is a drop down used to set a disposition (complete/not complete/etc). My goal is to allow people to have permission to set these fields in the plan, but to not be able to open/change the plan settings. I can't seem to figure this out, despite the documentation (Types of permissions in your plan | Jira Cloud | Atlassian Support) seeming to suggest this is possible.

Our current permission configuration is that all users belong to a Jira Group, and that group has been given the Plans User permission. Within the plan we've tried:

  1. Put the group into the View access - This only allows viewing the plan, not setting the fields as desired.
  2. Put the group into the Edit access - This enables setting the fields, but seems to give everyone permissions to the Plan settings as well, which isn't desirable.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi Michael - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I am not aware of a way to grant permissions to edit the work items in the plan without giving them the ability to edit the plan itself.

You might want to open a support ticket with Atlassian to get clarification. If you do, please post back here with the resolution for future readers.
