Allow resizing the Detail View panel beyond 50% in the new Issue Navigator

Problem:

In the new Issue Navigator, when using the Detail View (split view), the detail panel on the right side cannot be resized beyond approximately 50% of the screen width. This is a significant UX regression compared to the old Issue Navigator.

Why this is a problem:

• Even after removing all unnecessary columns from the left list (keeping only Key and Summary), the detail panel still cannot expand beyond ~50%.

• The left panel wastes valuable screen space showing minimal information, while the detail panel — where users actually read and work on issues — is cramped.

• The old Issue Navigator allowed a much better balance between the list and detail views, making it far more efficient for daily work.

Expected behavior:

• Users should be able to freely drag and resize the split between the list panel and the detail panel (e.g., 20% list / 80% detail, or even a collapsible list panel).

• Alternatively, provide a "compact list" mode where the left panel shows only issue keys/titles in a narrow column, giving maximum space to the detail view.

Use case:

As a project manager / team lead, I use filters with JQL to review open tasks daily. I only need the issue key, title, and status in the list — nothing more. When I click on an issue, I want to see its full details on as much screen space as possible without opening it in a new tab.

Current workarounds (all inadequate):

• Opening issues in a new tab — loses the quick navigation between issues

• Reducing browser zoom — not a real solution, makes everything smaller

• Removing columns — doesn't help because the panel still won't resize beyond 50%

Environment: Jira Cloud

This change would greatly improve the daily workflow for thousands of users who rely on filters and the Issue Navigator as their primary way of working in Jira. Thank you for considering this improvement.

I completely agree with the use case, but unfortunately, Jira Cloud doesn't currently allow you to resize the preview panel beyond the half-screen limit.

This is a known product limitation and is actively tracked in these Atlassian feature requests. I highly recommend voting for and watching them:

 JRACLOUD-98347 – Option to drag the Preview Panel to more than half a page

 JRACLOUD-96809 – Provide the ability to disable the global preview panels

For now, open work items in a new tab for a full-page view, minimize your list columns to save horizontal space, or use browser window management to create your own split-screen layout.
