Hello Community!
My company's IT requested a server update (because some OS issues) but they requested me to move all my system settigns from the old server to the new one.
There is no colud or Data center plans in the bucket, so we have to work with this Jira Core version (8.20.10).
My question is, if i shut down the system on the old server and install it on the new one, will i be able to activate my license key what i used on the old server? I red that the system will be usable after the end of support date (and it does work) but i didn't saw any suggestion about the system, if it moves to a new place.
Thank you for your reply.
I think your question is valid.
Essentially, the license (even if expired) is tied to the Server ID. So, if you moved Jira to a new piece of hardware, I'd expect that there will be a new Server ID, so your Jira becomes "unlicensed".
To resolve this, if I were you, I'd just try it and see what happens (i.e. wouldn't believe any answer but prove it).
Try to create Jira on the new server server, and if it works, you shut down the old one. If it doesn't, at least you have a proof that it won't work, and you still have it working on the old server.
Hello @Aron Gombas _Midori_
Thanks for your reply, and I think I will do that. Honestly I don't know why I didn't come up with this idea earlier by myself...
Today afternoon I will check this out, and will write back the outcome...

I made the test install on a different server, and on a different network settings, but with the same Jira Core version.
After the initialisation the new test instance accepted out license key, what we are currenty using on the old server.
@Aron Gombas _Midori_thank you for your suggestion!

Hello @Renátó Serfőző
The answer on the following post says it is possible.

Hello @Trudy Claspill
I read the post in your comment, thank you very much...but I'm still not quite convinced about the topic. The post was made well before the end of the support period.
However, I hope it will work, because the KPI of all our projects and work is based on this instance.
