I have a project that is currently showing the same screen for all actions(create, edit, view) and for all issue types.
I want to start changing that and creating screens per the user needs, starting with separating screens per issue type and maybe later per action.
My question is if I create the new screens and associate according to action and issue type, is this expected to affect data in already existing issues?
For example wipe data from existing issues or anything of that kind?
Note: I know that I must make sure not to remove mandatory fields from the screens or else I won't be able to move forward in my workflow.

Changing the screen will not affect existing issues other then that fields that are currently available may not be visible after the change, but the data is preserved. The only time data is removed is when you delete a custom field.
In order to make sure required fields are not removed you have to look at your field configuration to see if they are marked as required in there and also check your workflows to see if fields are required as part of a transition.
