Advanced Roadmap Not Showing Epic From Another Team

frances.close June 5, 2023

We are a shared resource team who has stories on our own Kanban board that are tied to Epics from other team boards (ex: a DES story that sits in a MOBILE teams epic).

I can see the stories in the Timeline view now that we have Jira Premium, but I do not see the Epics they relate to. Instead it says "62 issues without parent" and then lists those stories. I know that several of these do have a parent, they are just not on the board where the story lives.

The issue before we had Premium was that I could not see these stories on our roadmap view in our project space, so being able to see them in a timeline is a good first step, however I'd like to see that each are from a different teams Epic. Is there a way to do this?

Any help in how I can get to have the Epics to show up would be much appreciated!

Have you checked 'Filters' in your Plans? Open your Plans > Select 'Filters' > Ensure that the levels are 'Epic' > 'Sub-task'. Maybe your configuration is 'Story' > 'Subtask'.

Another thing that could be happening is you are only bringing your project in 'Issues Sources' of Plans.

Try bringing the board instead of the project if this is the case.

Thanks for the response! Yes, the filter is currently set to Epic > Sub-task. I started the project by selecting Board rather than Project, so I think that should be all set.

The view I am talking about is currently titled "Basic" (which was preset when I started the plan).

If you or others have other ideas let me know.

@frances.close ,

In this case, check the board filter.

If your board filter only contains: project = XXXX

Bringing only data from your project, you will need to adjust this to bring in Epics from other projects. That's because the Epics of these other projects are not fully included on the board, although you can see their description in a possible 'Swimlane'.

Try adjusting your board query to bring something like: project = XXXX or project = XXX AND issuetype = Epic

Or simply add a second project to your Plans and watch the behavior work as a test solution

Regards,

Fernando
