I am looking to add columns to the current sprint board. Currently it appears that columns can only be added for Categories (To-do, In Progress, Done) and not based on status.
Specifically I am looking to add columns for "Rework Required" but can only choose the category of that status between (To-do, In Progress, Done). Instead of grouping that in the "In Progress" column, I want it as a standalone column
Just above the rightmost part of your screenshot, there should be an "add column" button. Is that not there?
So I figured it out. You have to add a column first, then can drag the status into it. The categories which corresponded to the initial columns made it appear that I could not add additional columns of other statuses.

To configure the board and any of its settings, you must be either:
a project administrator for the location of the board
a board administrator for the board itself
If you are one of those you might want to follow the steps from the article https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/configure-columns/ an add the columns you need to your board.
