Adding a ticket to a sprint via the "backlog" view doesn't work

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I go to the "backlog" view of my board:
Then I click the "+ Create issue" button and start typing the name of a new issue:
It even says "New Story in Sprint 10/02" implying that it should be added to the sprint once I press enter.
However once I submit, it creates the new ticket but dumps it into the backlog instead of attaching it to the `Sprint 10/02` as expected.
This used to work but seemed to have broken recently?
