Addig custom fields to existing issues

Jeff Miner January 4, 2021

I just created a custom drop down field for issues.  While it is available for any newly created issues,  it's not showing up for existing issues.  Is there a way to bulk add this new field to all current existing issues?

Thanks!

Jira does not display (most types of) fields that are empty.  If you edit the issues, you'll find you are offered the new field, assuming you've added it to the edit screen for that project.

One solution might be to start a bulk change (with some limitations: 2000 issues and issues needs edit permission). Choose all issues, at next screen "edit issues". In next step you will find your new custom field and now you can add it. I also recommend to remove "Send mail for this update" to avoid lots of mails ;-)

Hi @Jeff Miner ,

In order to make it appear in the issues you want, you need to add the field to the correct Screen.

You can check which screen you need to edit by going to your project => settings => Screens and see which screen is associated with which issue type.

Let me know if it helped,

Guilhem
