I need to add 3 custom “date fields” .
I want the 3 new “date fields” to show up in all my existing tickets.
At the moment, they only show up when I “Create” a new ticket. This isn’t what I need, unfortunately.
Are there easy step by step instructions I can give my JIRA administrator to help?
Hi Brandon - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Make sure the dates are on the Create, Edit, and View screens in the screen scheme for that project.
Also, if you are using the Old Jira Issue View, fields that are empty do not show up unless they have a value in them.
Hi John- Thank you for the warm welcome!
I will be sure to tell my Admin to click the Create, edit and view screens (I hope this does the trick).
We are using the Old Jira Issue View ( I assume) since the field that are empty are not showing up. I did go into some of my previously created tickets and clicked "edit" and the new fields my JIRA admin created were not visible.
They are visible when i go to CREAT a new ticket... i just noticed he marked them as "Required" so maybe they need to be "optional" to show up in the previous tickets?

No, making them optional will not make them show up. They need to be on the Edit screen.
If they are there, then check to make sure they are not Hidden in the Field Configuration.

John,
Is there a "Migrate" option or something that tells JIRA to apply the new settings to all of the old tickets?
They are still not showing up on my old tickets. Just new ones.

No, no migration.
So, now I am curious if I understand you correctly. Are you saying that you added the fields to the screen and they show up for edit for cards that are new (created since you added the fields to the screen) but don't show up for edit for cards that existed before you added the fields? Assuming all cards are on the same project.

I am flying bling because i am not the Admin but instead giving directions to the admin (Super convenient).
The fields are added to the screens you mentioned. When I "Create" a new card...the fields are visible in the popup box. However, once i press "submit" or finish up creating the card...the fields are no longer visible in the card. They are no where...just like they don't exist.
When "editing" any card they don't exist either.
So, these fields only show up in the CREATE screen. No where else.

You were correct! I was able to get this all resolved.
Thank you for your help!

This page should be a good start and has all steps you need to create a custom field, just make sure you select proper field type (there are date + time vs just date).
However, I should not that this is the basic administrative operation in Jira and you (or your administrator) may want to invest some time and resources into learning some basics stuff.

I agree with you 100%, it should be a basic administrative operation...it just seems somewhere, someone may have skimped on our JIRA admin hire.
