Hello @d852673

I will make that easier and Copy my Answer to somebody else.

Jira Cloud, a truly deleted issue/work item can’t be restored from a native “trash” the way projects can. Once an issue is deleted, it’s generally gone, unless you have a backup-based recovery path.

What you can do:

1) Make sure it was really deleted

Sometimes people “remove from board/backlog” or change filters and think it’s deleted.

Try searching by summary text, reporter, assignee, and a date range.

2) If it was actually deleted

Your realistic recovery options are:

Restore from a backup (admin-only)
Atlassian’s documented approach is to use an existing backup file from before the deletion, then export/import the issue data back (often via CSV).

If you had a “keep deleted issues”/restore app installed before the deletion
Some Marketplace apps can restore, but only if they were already tracking deletions at the time.

Hello @d852673

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Adding to @Arkadiusz Wroblewskionce a work item is deleted, it is permanently removed from the system, however, you can recover/recreate the work items following the steps outlined in the following document:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira/kb/restore-deleted-work-items-in-jira-cloud-using-local-backup-files/

I hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi @d852673 ,

Unfortunately, accidental deletions are a very common issue, and as it was already mentioned, there is no native “trash bin” for restoring it.

When it comes to backup, you have a few options - Atlassian recently released its Backup and Restore - https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Cloud-Admins-articles/Never-lose-a-workday-again-Atlassian-Backup-amp-Restore-for/ba-p/3177753

Another option is to use a third-party backup tool. For example, GitProtect backup for Jira Cloud, which allows you to back up and restore separate spaces or work items. You can learn more about the solution from the Atlassian Marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1228719/gitprotect-io-for-jira-backup-restore-dr-data-management?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

Hi @d852673 !

Unfortunately, Jira doesn't have a native option that allows restoring deleted tickets. You can try to ask your site admin to use a backup or contact Atlassian support.

To prevent such a situation in the future, you can try using Issue History for Jira (Work Item History) app from SaaSJet team.

With the help of this app, you'll be able to:

  • Track the full ticket change history

  • Monitor deleted tickets

  • Restore deleted tickets
  • Export complete historical data in Excel, CSV, or PDF formats

Track and restore deleted work items in Jira. Monitor deleted issues and recover them anytime

By enabling the Keep deleted work items option in the app, deleted tickets remain visible in the report and can be reviewed and restored easily when needed.
