We're having an issue with LDAP/AD being intermittent. We've added 5 users to the confluence-users group so they have access and they're able to sign on for most of the time. Occasionally it stops working.
I've tried clearing the cache as mentioned in this article:
I've also disabled the "Follow Referrals" as mentioned in this article:
Where would I begin to investigate the issue, or can I provide logs to you?

This is the Atlassian community so personal emails are unlikely. Atlassian suggests the community as support for the 10 user licenses.
It's not clear what confluence-users has to do with Jira. Are you using Jira as your LDAP server for Confluence perhaps?
Are the users unable to log into Jira, or into Confluence?
I think nested groups are also something to disable.
