A user wants to change an Issue's field without editing existing issues

A user of ours wants to update a field from singular choice radio buttons to multiple choice Checkboxes without disturbing any Issues that have already been created. From my knowledge, I don't believe this is possible but would like to confirm. Thank you to anyone willing to answer this!

This is not possible. I would create a new field and take the old field off of the create and edit screens, only keeping it on the view screen. This would keep historical data and make it easier for users to transition to the new field.

You cannot change a custom field type - you must create a new custom field and then migrate any data from the first field to the new field.
