2 columns for done

Deleted user February 24, 2020

Hello, my team would like a couple of columns on our board for done.

The first is when the work is done and the second for when released. Problem is we don't always release products in the same sprint which means the work is complete but not deployed. As a team we decided we would like our tickets to be closed at Done (helps with the burndown) but we also would like a deployed for when they are actually released, but since deployed is the far right column the tickets aren't closing at done if that makes sense.

Any help would be great.

TIA

Hi @[deleted]

The way boards and reporting works is that many of the agile reports consider issues complete when they are on the rightmost column. Given that you dont always release products in the same sprint i would suggest the following setup:

Use two different boards for viewing issues:

1. A scrum board used for the sprints. On this board you have the "Done" on the rightmost column to make the reporting and burndowns behave according to the progress of the current sprint.

2. A kanban board for an overview for releasing. This board could show both "Done" and "Released" and as long as "Released" is the rightmost column, the reports will be based on all issues in that column. This one will not be dependent on any sprints and thereby focus solely on releases.

TIP: Jira has built in release management aswell, maybe this functionality can help tracking your releases instead of the board? There are reports that are based on releases and this functionality makes it possible to track and report on multiple versions at the same time.

Hope this helps!
