What can we learn?
There are two ways to determine which fields are displayed in the same Jira project. You can use a screen scheme or a field configuration scheme.
In the first screenshot:
Story, Epic, Task, and Sub-task items display two custom fields: “Strategy” and “Business Owner”.
New Feature items only display the “Strategy” custom field.
The New Feature work type uses a custom screen and screen scheme that doesn’t include the “Business Owner” custom field.
Another option is to hide fields using a field configuration scheme.
In the second screenshot:
Story, Bug, Epic, New Feature, Task, and Sub-task items have no special field-specific settings.
Story items have the “Business Owner” custom field “removed” (previously referred to as “hidden”).
The Story work type uses a field configuration to remove/hide the “Business Owner” custom field. Even though the field is included in a screen scheme, it won’t show if removed/hidden in the field config.
Removing fields from screens or removing/hiding fields in field configurations are both are effective methods to determine fields shown. The best method to use depends on the specifics of your use case and the other needed field customizations. Generally, it comes down to which would you rather maintain: additional screens or additional field configs?
