Introducing the Jira 2026 Summer Release

Atlassian is pleased to announce Jira’s Summer 2026 release, part of our initiative to improve predictability for major new features and interface changes within Jira. Our first release for Spring 2026 brought agents to Jira, a new For You page, guest access, and better admin controls. If you missed it, you can catch up here.

This release is about making everyday parts of Jira faster, simpler, and more powerful. We rebuilt core views from the ground up, made AI useful in more of the places where you actually work, and gave teams richer ways to represent how they work in Jira. All of these features are rolling out now and will be generally available for all Jira Cloud customers by the end of August 2026.

We’ve also been hard at work making Jira faster and more capable for humans and agents. Over the past 12 months, we’ve improved Jira’s UI performance and tools for agents:

• Jira work items load 57% faster

• Lists and search are 60% faster

• Company-managed boards and backlogs are 48% and 16% faster, respectively

• New MCP tool improvements have shipped and more are coming

• Teamwork Graph CLI, the fastest and easiest way for agents to use Jira, is now generally available

AI and agents that do real work

In the Spring release, we introduced agents in Jira that work directly on your Jira work items. Now, agents in Jira are more proactive, surfacing insights, creating updates, and handling routine work.

1. A new out-of-the-box agent for planning and organizing work

Delivery Agent is a new built-in agent in Jira designed to handle recurring coordination work that slows teams down. Run health checks, standup digests, and stakeholder status updates without the manual effort.

And to make setup simple, we’ve added new automation templates directly in the Jira Summary view, so you can set up the agent automations in seconds.

2. Create Jira spaces with Rovo

Describe the way you work in natural language (or attach any context you already have, like Confluence pages, Looms, decks, or images) and Rovo generates a full space with workflows, work types, views, and suggested first work items, so you land in a space that’s ready to use and tailored to your actual work.

3. Meeting updates from Loom, straight into Jira

Connect a Loom meeting to a Jira space and after the recording is processed, Rovo maps the decisions and action items from the transcript to specific work items and surfaces suggested updates. Review them, apply them, and move on. No more going ticket by ticket after every standup.

4. Work item summary card

Complex work items with long descriptions, dozens of comments, and linked child tasks can take real effort to piece together. You can now generate an AI summary at the top of any work item that tells you what it's about, where it stands, who's involved, and what needs attention next.

Core views rebuilt to be faster and more consistent

One of the most consistent things we've heard from you is that Jira's views had different capabilities depending on where you were. Features like swimlanes, subtask visibility, and inline editing were available in some places but not others. This release fixes that by rebuilding board, timeline, and list on a shared modern foundation.

1. List and All work, merged into one

List and All Work views have been combined into a single view called List. It brings together JQL, AI-powered natural language search, full parent/child hierarchy, and inline editing in one place. Space admins can also save custom views for the whole team to share.

2. A faster way to create work

The create experience now starts with a compact, focused form: summary, description, assignee, due date, and any required fields. The compact work-item create view expands to the full form for complex work items, allowing both lightweight creation and full configuration as needed.

3. All new Boards in team-managed spaces

The software board in team-managed spaces has been rebuilt with a 22% faster load time, no more work item caps, swimlanes, subtasks on cards, inline field editing, and saved default views. Your workflows aren't changing, but the board underneath them is significantly better.

4. And an improved Timeline view, too

The timeline view now shows all your work including subtasks, and lets you edit, filter, update, and reschedule directly from the timeline. Color bars by status category help you scan a busy timeline at a glance, and you can view the timeline by sprint with release markers.

Richer ways to represent how you work in Jira

Jira should fit the way your team works – not the other way around. Now, you can plan individual capacity, turn your own calculations into live fields, and connect day-to-day work to broader projects and goals, all on a faster foundation with better tools for both humans and agents.

1. Capacity planning for individual workloads

A new Capacity view shows how your team's time is actually allocated, who's overloaded, and where there's room. The real backlog is right next to the numbers so you can rebalance without switching tools.

2. Formula fields

You can now create fields that auto-calculate values on your work items: remaining budget, days until a deadline, weighted scores, and more. Describe what you want in plain language and Rovo writes the formula for you. Results are searchable, sortable, and live where the work lives instead of in a separate spreadsheet.

3. Atlassian Projects 🤝 Jira

Work items can now be connected to Atlassian Projects, giving leaders a way to see how day-to-day work rolls up to broader initiatives. It works across work types and spaces, so cross-functional teams see the same picture, and it stays up to date as work moves.

List and All work FINALLY merged! I've been saying this in my enablement sessions for over a year now "expect these two to become one". 

Also very exciting Update for Loom - still trying to convince people of the value it could bring to a lot of our teams. This one is certainly a time saver that could help my argument.

Capacity planning for individual workloads is a really long-awaited feature.

I noticed it's only available for team-managed projects. Could we expect it to become available for company-managed projects as well?

@Dave Meyer the Loom for '2. A faster way to create work' shows the Summary field renamed as Title. But @Kanad Dagaonkar said in the Community Post that that change was reverted and you were rolling back to Summary. I suggest that you update the Loom or you'll get loads more irate people complaining about the change to Title. Noting also, for people landing here who have not seen the Community Post, that admins can switch this off via Settings > System > General Configurations, then set "Simple Create as Default" to off. This applies to the entire site.

Re 2. Create Jira spaces with Rovo, this is for Team Managed Spaces, right? If a user does not have the global permission to create Team Managed Spaces will Rovo respect that? Is there anything admins will need to do to ensure that people can not use Rovo to create Team Managed Spaces? I've not seen any detailed article on this - if there is one please give the link. Thanks!

@Julia Foden Create a space with Rovo works with the same permissions as manual space creation. If you have permission to create both company-managed and team-managed spaces, you'll see a picker to select. If you only have permission to create one or the other, the picker will be hidden. And obviously if you have neither, the space create action is not available.

@Margarita Burkova Capacity feature is available for company-managed projects on Premium and Enterprise sites. Since you don't see it, a space admin will need to add it from the ‘+' in your top navigation. If it still doesn’t show up, please open a support ticket so we can investigate.

thank you for the announcement and the work you put into producing and including all these videos. It makes it so much easier to get an overview.

I have some questions though (tell me if I should place them somewhere else)

Work Item summary card: 

-> Will this feature be forced on us or are we able to switch it off (centrally) or place it somewhere else besides above the comments ? In JSM it really got in the way of working and I'd like to give my JWM users some room for working (UI-wise speaking).

-> It seems that the list still does not highlight overdue items, is this planned or do I just not know how to turn it on? :-)

-> Will there be a central switch to turn it on/off? (I really don't want to train ~1.400 users, give me some time for transition)

-> Will "screens" still show, especially tabs?

Formula fields:

-> There seem to be restrictions like using the field "resolutiondate" -> will there be a list of restricted fields? I miserably failed when I tried to create a formula field that was supposed to show "Yes" or "No" using resolutiondate and duedate

Work item summary cards must be triggered by the user. They are neither generated nor displayed automatically. While we hope to proactively generate them in the future, this will be in a separate release.

You can highlight overdue work items in the List with format rules.

All your questions around the new work create experience should be answered in the documentation.

The list of supported field types in formula fields is also in the documentation.
