Atlassian Command Line Interface (ACLI) for Jira is now generally available!

Hello, Atlassian Community! I’m Zhenis Beisekov from the Jira Platform Product Management team, here to share a major announcement: the Atlassian Command Line Interface (ACLI) is now available for all Jira Cloud plans!

ACLI overview

ACLI is a command-line tool that enables admins and technical users to complete work in Jira by executing text-based scripts directly from the terminal. At launch, there are dozens of commands that can perform actions on projects, work items, and users across multiple sites.

Engineered as a native-command line interface, ACLI saves you time by removing the need to write custom programs that interact with Atlassian Public APIs. It takes care of authentication, optimizes for performance, manages errors, and handles other API complexities. Moreover, we designed the commands to be atomic, and thanks to the JSON output, you can easily connect ACLI’s output with other tools to streamline your scripting.

More flexible solutions

We built ACLI in response to growing demand for faster, more efficient Jira management. As teams and projects grow, so does the need for flexible solutions that allow users to work in the way that suits them best. ACLI introduces a more flexible way to manage Jira, giving teams the option to use text-based commands alongside existing tools with UIs like Jira Automation and Site Optimizer.

Built for speed and control

ACLI provides the strategic advantage of speed. For example, you can accelerate Jira tasks by processing high-volume workloads across multiple sites in parallel, all from the terminal. A system admin might use this to quickly archive outdated projects across business units on separate sites, enabling faster implementation of large-scale changes.

You also benefit from more granular control over your Jira operations. For example, you can tailor multi-step scripts to handle complex tasks with precision. A technical user could write this single script that strings together multiple actions on Jira work items, ensuring changes are applied in clear, controlled stages:

  1. Search for work items that match a specific criteria

  2. Comment on each work item to notify stakeholders of upcoming changes

  3. Transition the work items to "Needs Review" status

  4. Edit the work items that are approved for change

Get started today

You can start using ACLI to optimize your operations right now! Simply install the ACLI package for your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux) and follow the setup instructions to begin executing commands from your terminal.

Please let us know if you have any ACLI questions, requests, or feedback in the comments below.

Congrats Zhenis

the ACLI is very nice, how does this compare to the JiraPS PowerShell module in terms of feature coverage?

Are there any plans to bring this to Data Center?

Appfire has a command line tool that uses the same name and command, acli. Can they co-exist?
