JIRA epic icons not appearing in backlog epic panel

An icon has been set for the epic issue type and this shows on the roadmap but does not show in the epic panel on the backlog. Is there a way to have the icon show in that backlog panel?

Currently this is not a configuration you can set to have both showing an icon. 

I would syggest you to open a request to suggest this as a feature (chaning the config or just showing the icon).
