In order to be able to make effective posts in Jira I need access to my photos, which in iOS I can’t give unless Jira makes a request for that access. I’ve looked everywhere I can think of (but I’m new to the software) and can’t find a place where the Jira app requests access to Photos, so I need some help. Surely as an iOS app it has this built in. Under Pirvacy, Photos, Jira (app) doesn’t show up. Neither is there any options when I look under Apps on my iDevices, it only shows stuff like Siri and Background Refresh, as well as Notification options, nothing about Photos permission. Really can’t believe something that uses attachments wouldn’t have a photos perms request on iOS?
Hi Cassandre,
Jira on iOS no longer needs to ask for permission from the user to attach photos to issues or comments. This is because the app does not need full access to all of your photo library. The app gets access to the photos/videos that are selected in the photo picker UI that appears when you select "Photo Library" in the Attach menu on an issue or "Insert from gallery" when adding a photo/video to a comment.
That photo picker is controlled by the operating system and at no point has Jira permission to access your photos other than the ones you selected specifically in that picker.
I hope this helps!
Simon
Thanks Simon! good to know and explains my experience.

Hi Cassandrae,
Are you using the jira mobile app or the browser? I just did a quick test in my Jira app on my iPhone and was able to access the photos without issue. I don't recall giving permission previously but maybe I did. What exactly are you saying when you attempt to attach a file or photo from the iOS app?

I’m using the mobile version for iOS. The behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes it will accept an image or clip from my photo library but others it will not. When it won’t accept an image or clip from my Photo Library it will say “We’re unable to retrieve media from photo library” but that doesn’t make any sense that some will download and others won’t.
I’ve tried trimming video clips to see if there is a size issue but that didn’t help. I’ve also tried removing a clip that would attach to my report, to see if the one that wouldn’t, would subsequently work, but with no success. So for whatever reason, the attachment process from My Photos is only working for me part time, and unpredictable at that.
That’s why I was curious if there was a way to set perms so I wasn’t stuck with this “guessing game” of trying to do attachments for my reports, never knowing if the media documentation I’d worked to procure would actually be accepted by Jira app. I’m simply baffled what the difference is between one image or clip versus another, as to why one would be accepted and another listed as “unable to be retrieved.” I don’t have any media in special folders or anything like that. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or if there is tech support I’d be happy to talk to them. Again length/size doesn’t seem to be the issue I’m dealing with, and all are stored in the same location in “My Photos”
Thanks so much for the rapid response!

Hi Cassandre,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble attaching photos.
We're not aware of any bugs at this point. Our guess is that there might be an iCloud error. Are you able to open the problematic photos in the Photos app? If so, can you see the little download progress "circle" on the screen? Is it possible to attach the photo after it has been completely downloaded in the Photos app?
Thanks,
Simon
