Hi Community,
I currently am using the free version of Jira Software Cloud. I cannot seem to find where to add components to my project. When setting up my project I selected Kanban, is that where the issue lies?
Any help is appreciated.
We have the same problem: We miss components. We are indeed running a team-managed project (TMP).
Can somebody from Atlassian confirm that Components do not exist in a TMP. If so, what is the rationale behind that?
Coming from Jira on-prem and having used Components forever, I have a hard time understanding why I should not be able to use them anymore.
Last but not least: How would a decent workaround look like?
Edit:
We added a created additional “Labels” field, renamed to “Components”
Downsides:
- Not sure how this can work as filter criteria (e.g. Component = frontend)
- Custom field cannot be added to card layout to be visible in board view
Hi @Frank Spenling ,
indeed components are not currently supported in TMP projects. Here is a suggestion that is still gathering interest that you may wish to add your vote to end or watch. JSWCLOUD-17601 Ability to add components to Team Managed Projects
While I do not work for Atlassian I would say that the reason it is not there is simply that TMP has been implemented with an MVP approach. As such Atlassian continues to rapidly rollout features and functionality. Based on my conversations with various project managers at Atlassian I fully expect this feature will find its way to TMP at some point.

Hi Nathan, it could be that you are on a TMP project which does not have components. You could add a single select field or checkbox field.
