"Days since last comment" field type not visible in issue (work item) view

I created a custom field using the "Days since last comment" field type.
Before even applying it to any screens, I noticed that it's populated for all work items within the instance (which is great!). I then attempted to apply it to the view screen for a particular issue type and it doesn't appear. It seems like the only way to view the value present within this field is via an issue search. Is there something I'm missing or is this field type special and can't be applied to screens?
