Trying to add a customer

I am trying to add a new customer to our portal and nowhere do I see this option as other users in the forum suggested.  It's not on our project.  I just took it over from a user that left so maybe I am missing something:

Hi Kristi, is this a team managed project or a company manage project? If a company manage project you should be able to do this by simply clicking on the customers link in the sidebar. Do you see this link?
