Restart Azure Virtual Machine Automation Component

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to setup an automation to restart an Azure Resource from inside Jira. While in the past I've made it work now it is unable to retrieve the list of Azure Subscriptions always showing up the follow error,

  • Failed to retrieve selections, please refresh the page and try again (Screenshot)

Screenshot 2025-06-13 at 15.53.44.png

The following permissions assigned to me and allowed meto create the connection but nothing else,

  • Cloud Application Administrator
  • Owner of a specific Azure Subscription
  • Owner of the Resource Group in which we have placed the VM

Can you please share the necessary Azure permissions needed to complete this step? (List of privileges possible will be appreciated)

If it is not related to permissions, have you also faced this issue and managed to solve it?

Thank you.

Hey Panagiotis,

I've seen this before - usually it's an authentication token issue rather than permissions. Since you already have Owner rights, try these quick fixes:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect your Azure connection in JSM
  2. Clear browser cache or try incognito mode
  3. Check if your App Registration needs admin consent renewal

The "Failed to retrieve selections" error typically means the auth token expired. Sometimes just refreshing the connection does the trick.

If that doesn't work, you might need Virtual Machine Contributor role specifically, but your current permissions should be sufficient.

Let me know if reconnecting fixes it!
