Recreating Custom Fields from Prod to Sandbox via API

I'd like to recreate the custom fields from our production environment. Is this possible or viable?

If not, what's the best way to accomplish this? We have hundreds of custom fields and I'd like to replicate our production setup in our sandbox environment but I don't want to copy the projects and all their tickets into the sandbox.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @John Izquierdo , do you have a 3rd-party backup/restore app installed like the Revyz Data Manager for Jira, Salto.io Salto Configuration Manager for Jira, Rewind Backups for Jira, GitProtect.io for Jira, or another one in the Atlassian Marketplace? If so, you should be able to clone/copy just the configuration without the issues (data). I use the Revyz app and it does copy custom fields as part of configuration cloning.

Hi, @Susan Waldrip

No, we don't have any of the ones you listed installed. We do have Deep Clone for Jira but I didn't see an option with their app to clone custom fields into our sandbox env. I'll have to look into some of the ones you listed.

Since there are apps in the marketplace that can accomplish this then it must be doable via API... that's probably the better (free-er) option for me rn since my org wouldn't use the app that often. That said, I'll look into them still.

That makes sense, and maybe the commercial apps will give you some ideas for writing your own API calls to make that happen. Good luck!
