How does HALP streamline communication between Slack and Jira

I actually want to understand How does HALP streamline communication between Slack and Jira so that we can replace it with something else.

Halp is now Atlassian Assist and is part of JSM. So it allows you to authenticate slack and JSM together to create a channel for reporting issue and a channel for agents.
It also allows you to bind request type(s) to the channel so people can report request directly into slack and push that data into the queues.

I believe all of this is done through the Atlassian API and slack API.
