Migrating organisations

Jonathan Goodier February 19, 2024

We are looking to move to a new JSM project from our current one, this is in the same Jira tenant.

I am unable to find how you migrate the organisations to the new project in bulk. We have over 600 organisations.

The migration tool can be used to move tickets over, but I cannot see a way to easily migrate the organisations?.

Hi @Jonathan Goodier

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

If you are moving to a different project in the same Jira Site then it is quite straight forward. Project administrators can add organizations to a service project. Agents can also add organizations to a service project, providing that the option Yes, agents can add and remove organizations from projects, and add and remove customers from organizations is enabled in Jira Service Management > Configuration > Organization management.

To add an organization to a service project:

  1. From your service project, go to Customers.

  2. Select Add organizations.

  3. Add a new or existing organization by entering its name and selecting it in the dropdown.

  4. Press Add.

Refer this link for more details.

If you are familiar with REST API, you can programmatically add Organizations to a service project. Refer this documentation.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Jonathan Goodier welcome to the community.  If you are moving from one cloud system to another, would the Jira Cloud-To-Cloud process work for you?  Under your Atlassian Administrator application, then Settings / Data Management there is a copy product data feature.  Based on this page from Atlassian, it appears Organizations would be copied over.

Hope that helps.
