The scenario I have is:

Request type A has a form that has a field called "Impact" (with information populated)

Request type B has a custom field called "Impact" (with information populated)

I want to add the form to Request Type B and link the form field to the custom field.

The question is, will the form field overwrite the custom field or vice versa? Or some other behaviour?

Hi Liam - welcome to the Atlassian Community!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE never create custom fields with the same name as a system field - for example Description. It should be a totally unique name. If you change the custom field name to something else, it will solve your problem.

Hi, this name was just an example. I will edit the original post make this clearer. But changing the field name will not alter the original question. The question is when you link form fields to custom fields when they both are populated (with potentially different information) what happens? Will one overwrite the other? Are they merged?

Actually, that is a good question. I have not see anyone try to do that before with existing data. I would say to give it a test on a single issue and see what happens. Then please post back here with results of the test.
