Is there any color coding or conditional formatting in JSM?

Melissa Pershing January 30, 2025

A user has requested conditional formatting for an item that has the status of stalled.  Either the card in the Views shows up as a different color or some other visual indicator drawing attention to the stalled item in the list or view itself.  I can't seem to find a way to accomplish this.

Hi @Melissa Pershing

welcome to the community!

If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a range of advanced features, including support for conditional formattingWith conditional formatting, you can define conditions on your issues - such as different due date ranges - and if these conditions are fulfilled, set the color of either the entire issue row or a particular cell.

This is how it looks in action:

I'm using the issue type and assignee fields here for conditional formatting, but you can use any other field(s) as well. Also, as every JXL sheet is powered by a JQL query or a saved filter, you have full control over which issues you want to include.

I should also add that JXL can do much more than the above: From support for configurable issue hierarchies, to issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or inline bulk editing via copy/paste.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

@Melissa Pershing

Welcome to the community.  JSM by default manages issues via Queues - where you can defined a queue with an appropriate search criteria filter that focus on your issue's WF status (i.e. STALLED).

You can use the same filter in other reporting/dashboard setup.

Hope this helps.

@Melissa Pershing I would suggest a dashboard with a filter for stalled items. Even a Kanban board seems more applicable to a service desk than a calendar where you set due dates in my view.
