Is it possible to assign a work item to two people?

If two people are working on a ticket at the same time, I would also like the ticket to be assigned to both people. Is that possible?

So the “Assignee” field should be able to contain two people.

Hello @Antonia ,

Good day welcome to Atlassian Community

No, by Default the System assignee field can have just one Assignee at a time.

As a workaround you can refer to this discussion

Hope this is helpful

Hi, @Antonia! 👋

Great question - this comes up often when teams collaborate closely on tasks. Unfortunately, Jira's built-in Assignee field only supports one person at a time, so assigning a ticket to multiple people directly isn't possible out of the box.

There are a few ways teams work around it:

🧩 Use a custom multi-user picker field - you can create a field like "Collaborators" or "Co-owners" to list others working on the task alongside the main assignee.

📌 Mention teammates in comments or description - If you want to quickly loop in others without creating new fields, tagging them with @ works well for visibility.

🛠️ Automation - you could also trigger automatic notifications or status updates based on who’s added as a collaborator.

Hope this gives some ideas! ✨
