I am trying to create an automation rule in Jira with if else condition

kangan batra October 13, 2024

I am setting up an automation rule on my board based on the if else condition where if any of the condition is passes, a new issue gets created on my board. If conditions are based on 3 different fields of the main Issue. But I am not able to find a way to add my fields in the conditions, fields required are 'Capability Tower', 'Supporting Capability' and 'Other Core Platforms'. Can you please help.

Hi @kangan batra and welcome to the Community!

Can you explain your scenario in full detail? From your description, it seems as if you are trying to make sure 3 required fields must be filled out when a user is trying to create an issue. That is something you would not use an automation rule for, but rather field configuration or workflow validation. But most likely I don't understand the entire context here, so try to explain what you are trying to achieve and what steps you would like to go through.

If you already have an automation rule, share details (screenshots) of the full automation rule and provide details of where you are stuck, so we can assist you further.

Let me explain:

We have 1 main board where issues are created and Fields like 'Capability Tower', 'Platforms' are updated by the user. Based on this, tasks are assigned to the departments and issues are created on the respective departments boards manually. I am trying to achieve that if any one of the above fields are updated with my department name, a subset under main issue gets created automatically for my board. Since there are 2-3 fields which needs to be referred I am trying to use If Else. But I am not able to figure what out of the below options can be used.

So, if I understand correctly: when either of these fields is updated to something that is linked to your department, you want to automatically create one or more issues for your team, probably linked to this original request?

I don't have your specific fields in my test environment, so try to look beyond that in the below example.

If you trigger your rule with Field value changed and add your 3 custom fields there, your automation will fire if any of those fields is updated.

Then, add an IF ... ELSE ... condition to check the values of your fields. In my example, I selected Run actions if at least one condition matches ... to check if either of my fields matches a certain condition. All you need to do from there is fill in your specific conditions and matching actions.

Hope this helps!
