How to modify a field in request form?

Rajesh Kumarasamy
June 20, 2023

I have worked on other projects, and I am very new to the Jira service management project. There are fields associated with different issue types in our project. But these fields are not appearing the custom fields section.

I could not find a way to modify the existing field types. Is there a way to update these fields?

I have got myself the project admin access also.

Hi Rajesh,

You cannot modify custom field types in Jira - you have to create new types and migrate any data in the existing fields if you need to maintain that data.

However, you can modify the Context of the custom fields if it is just a matter of associating them with different issue types. To do that, go to Settings > Issues > Custom fields. Search for the custom field, then click the 3 dots menu on the right side for the field and choose Default value and Contexts.

To modify the form, go to Project Settings then click on Request Types. Click on the Request Type to modify and that will take you to the form and the fields. You can search for any field you want to add in the upper right.
