Hello Atlassian Community,

I am looking for guidance on creating a visual organizational chart for my team/projects in Jira and automating its population.

Part 1: Visual Org Chart

  • How can I create a visual org chart in Jira that shows reporting hierarchy (managers, departments, roles)?

  • Are there apps or native Jira features that allow building a dynamic, interactive org chart where users can visually explore the hierarchy?

  • Ideally, the org chart should be user-friendly and easy to maintain.

Part 2: Automation from Jira Tickets

  • Once the org chart is created, is it possible to automatically add new employees from a Jira ticket?

  • The ticket would contain custom fields like employee name, email, job title, department, and manager.

  • The org chart should update automatically without manual entry in the org chart tool.

  • Which apps or integrations support API-driven employee creation and hierarchy updates from Jira Automation webhooks?

I would appreciate examples, best practices, or recommended apps for building a visual org chart and linking it to Jira automation.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

@Edmond Khachatryan

To add on to what @Marc -Devoteam- suggested, your organization will need to decide the costs-vs-benefit analysis on all the add-on acquisition because each add-on has subscription costs (it is always based on the number of your paid licenses for JSM on your site).

Add-ons vendors truly have elevated/enhanced JSM core operations to another level for us the JSM users.  We greatly appreciated.

In our Jira/JSM envs, we have acquired many add-ons to fulfill our operational needs and our end users business needs.

Hi @Edmond Khachatryan

There are no ootb options in Jira, as Jira is not the tool for this.

You can look at options on the marketplace, https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=organizational&product=jira&hosting=cloud

This will not say that if you start using an app that this app can integrate with automation or native API options. They would need to provide options ot be used in automation and/or provide their own API endpoints.

Hi @Edmond Khachatryan,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

As far as I know, Jira does not provide an organizational chart out of the box.

In this case, a good solution would be to search for an app (plugin) on the Atlassian Marketplace.

If you’d like to try a plugin, our Project Team app offers everything you need to create and display organizational charts in Jira.

These charts are built based on user custom fields (such as Title, Role, Manager, etc.) added to an advanced user profile page.

The org charts are then automatically generated from the values in these fields using the Organizational Chart gadget

If you need help in configuring org charts with our app, feel free to contact us at support@stonikbyte.com.

Could the Reporting Line be used for this? We don't use it, but I've been interested in exploring.
