How do you link fields with an asset record to a jira issue field

We're trying to accomplish the following:

• When an asset is added to a Jira issue using a custom field
• We want to query a field from within the asset record and populate a field in the issue

For instance,

• An asset has an associated group called "Assigned Group"
• We want to populate a group field of the issue with the same information
