There is a help article specifically for this, and it says to click an X that pops up when the field is selected, but on my screen there is NO X. There is a weird barely visible oval under the field when its selected, but i cannot click on it or anything--im assuming thats where the X is supposed to be?

So I think that the image is from the recent integration of Proforma forms while the link is to the legacy forms in JSM.
While I have not how do opportunity yet to use the new forms feature here is a document that my assist you in modifying the form that you have illustrated above - create-or-edit-a-form

This was the correctly article i was looking for, thanks! It is literally as simple as selecting the field and pressing the delete button on the keyboard! Wish they would note that somewhere on the page.

yep. this new Forms rollout is a bit rough around the edges due to its overlap with legacy. reminds me of the existence of two automations.
