External Links in Self-Service and 'feature lab'

Our organization is looking into purchasing JSM, but would like clarification on the ability to add 'external links' on the self-service portal. 

In reviewing the community, it seems Atlassian has the capability rolled out into 'Feature Lab' but it has not made general release.

If we wanted to expose a Confluence Blog or something similar on the self-service portal, what have other organizations done?  Or how long does a feature live in 'Feature Lab' before it is rolled out to everyone.
