Edit users in Assets through automation

Deleted user
November 4, 2022

We recently started with using Assets to register all of our users, applications, hardware, etc. What I would like to do is change values of an Asset throught automation.

Say we have a form designed for HR to fill out in case someone quits the company. I would like them to select the user (object) and have a automation rule automatically change the status from 'Active' to 'Inactive'.

Is this possible at all? If it is, how do you 'get' the user through automation so it can be used at a later point in an automation rule?

If not, are there other ways to achieve this?

Hi @[deleted] and welcome to the community!

Yes this is possible.  You would need to create an Assets Custom Field.  From there, you'd be able to leverage automation to populate it.  Something like this:

  • TRIGGER: Issue Created
  • ACTION: Edit Issue (ASSET FIELD)
    • User = {{issue.USER FIELD}}
